Randian Subtext

Randy-Cavill

I made this for everyone who enjoyed Henry Cavill’s recent press tour more than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I’m unjustifiably proud of having coming up with this*, so I guess that’s at least one emotion I have in common with Zack Snyder.

Matchbox Cineclub: Double Take In Outer Space

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Matchbox Cineclub‘s March screening, in association with Glasgow International Comedy Festival, is the world premiere of Double Take In Outer Space (Des Mangan, 2016) on Thursday 17/03/16 at the Old Hairdressers, Glasgow. Based on Starcrash (Luigi Cozzi, 1978), it’s a dub parody pseudo-sequel to Hercules Returns (David Parker, 1993), which Physical Impossibility screened last September during Scalarama. As the story goes:

In 1992, Australian comedy duo Double Take recorded one of their live shows. That recording has been lost for 20 years. By deleting the original dialogue and replacing it with their own, Double Take turn this shocking film into a story of interstellar Russian supermodel Elle Freezezova and her manager, Lou Spowels as they try to stop the evil overlord Dag Velour from sabotaging the Intergalactic Fashion Awards. Double Take’s Des Mangan has painstakingly edited the original soundboard recording to a brand-new, HD version of Starcrash and Matchbox’s screening is the world premiere. Double Take In Outer Space – The Farce Awakens!

That about covers it, but for an even better idea what it’s all about, check out this vintage TV interview with Mangan and his Double Take partner Sally Patience, in which they discuss the live show Double Take In Outer Space is based on:

Limited tickets are available here. Keep up-to-date with the Facebook event page here.

The screening is by arrangement with Pegasus Entertainment and Double Take.
