The new, 4K restoration of Ran (Akira Kurosawa, 1985) is screening at GFT from today, Friday 1st April, to Thursday 7th April. It’s part of GFT’s Shakespeare on Film season, for which they’ve also programmed screenings of Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood (1957), West Side Story (Jerome Robbins, Robert Wise, 1961) and one of Richard III (Richard Loncraine, 1995), which is followed by a live satellite discussion with Loncraine and screenwriter/star Sir Ian McKellen.
My accompanying programme note will be available at screenings and there’s an online version at GFT’s blog here. GFT archives all its programme notes online here.
If you have any thoughts on GFT’s Shakespeare on Film season or my note, I’d love to hear them – post a comment here or on GFT’s blog (or you can even email me here).
